A double hook has two points and is used with live or dead bait rigs, soft lures and specialised presentations. It may collect fewer weeds than a treble, although the right option depends on the bait and rig.
Match hook gape to bait, target fish and presentation. Heavy wire withstands greater loading but adds weight and may alter bait behaviour.
Compare shank length, point angle, eye and finish. Mount the hook so both points remain clear and do not damage the line or leader.
Check sharpness after bottom contact and replace corroded or bent hooks. For winter lures, compare treble hooks.
