Main lines for fishing reels
Reel line fills the spool, transmits bites and withstands casting and fish-playing loads. Look beyond stated strength and compare diameter, stretch, surface finish and suitability for the intended technique.
Monofilament or braid?
Monofilament is forgiving, cushions sudden runs and knots easily. Braid provides high strength at a fine diameter and low stretch for sensitivity, but it is commonly paired with a separate hooklength or leader.
Diameter and spool capacity
Check the capacity printed on the spool and wind line evenly without overfilling. Excessively thick line reduces casting performance; line that is too fine may not withstand abrasion and shock loads.
