Flatfish fishing is popular along Lithuanian and Latvian coasts from beaches, piers, bridges and boats. Success depends on reaching productive ground, holding the rig on the seabed and detecting bites through waves.
Long casts often call for a bottom rod around 3.9 m or longer, but its rating must match the complete sinker, bait and rig weight. The reel should hold enough line and retrieve reliably through surf.
Fine braid has less drag and transmits contact well, but diameter should reflect casting shock, obstacles and the manufacturer’s stated strength. Select a sinker shape that grips the seabed and hooks suited to the bait.
