Method feeder fishing gear and tackle

Method feeder fishing is a bottom-fishing technique that presents groundbait and hook bait very close together on a flat feeder. It is widely used for carp, crucian carp, tench and bream in still or slowly flowing water.

How does a method feeder rig work?

Groundbait or dampened pellets are compressed around the feeder with a mould, often with the hook bait positioned inside the feed. Once on the bottom, the compact pile of feed creates a focused feeding area.

Which tackle should you choose?

Match rod length and casting weight to distance and loaded feeder weight. Choose suitable feeders, weights and reliable hooks for the intended fish and venue.

Which bait works with method feeder?

Common choices include micro pellets, groundbait, boilies and wafters. Match bait size, flavour and buoyancy to season, water temperature and fish activity.

  • casting distance and depth;
  • loaded feeder weight;
  • groundbait consistency;
  • hook-bait size and buoyancy.
